When Dean ‘Clairsy’ Clairs departed 96FM in August last year, after four decades in the industry and five years alongside Lisa Shaw on breakfast, the word ‘retirement’ was never mentioned.
That was never going to be the end of the radio story for Clairsy, and after a six month restorative break, he’s back, on Tuesday March 3 (after the Perth long weekend) on 6iX.
Dean will host Clairsy’s Classic Countdown, a fun, hour-long journey through music history, with a different musical theme each day, weekdays at midday.
Clairsy loves the music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, he knows most everything about it and has even interviewed some of the biggest stars of all time: from Sting and Springsteen, to Suzi Q and Stevie Nicks, and Aussie legends like INXS and John Farnham.
Clairsy said:
“I’m absolutely stoked to be joining the team at one of Perth’s oldest and most legendary media brands: 6iX. Can’t wait to sink my teeth into the Classic Countdown each weekday. My greatest passions in life include music, radio and my home-town Perth – so to combine all three, each day, will be a lot of fun!”
6iX Program Director Tim Lordan said:
“Anyone who heard that Clairsy was retiring, obviously heard wrong! It’ll be wonderful to have him on board. With Nat & Westo for Breakfast, the legendary John “Burgo” Burgess every weekend, and now Clairsy joining the team too, 6iX heads into the rest of 2026 with a lineup full of great ‘Perthonalities’. Enjoy.”
Plus, 6iX has some other exciting new projects with Clairsy in the works too. Watch this space.
Clairsy’s Classic Countdown starts Tuesday March 3rd and can be heard every weekday from Midday, via all of 6iX’s listening options: 1080 AM, 105.7 FM (Northern & Southern Suburbs), DAB+ radio, and streaming live though 6iX.com.au.
