World Audio joins Melbourne digital radio trials

In a move that will further rattle the cage of Commercial Radio Broadcasters, Section 40 off-band commercial licencee World Audio has announced it will take part in Broadcast Australia’s digital radio trials being conducted in Melbourne (see earlier story).

World Audio’s Radio 2 will provide digital radio content to BA’s digital transmitter, including program associated data (PAD), such as ‘now playing’ and ‘what’s coming up next,’ plus non-program associated data (NPAD) such as video and information services.

World Audio’s Andrew Peter Thompson told radioinfo: ” When I first signalled my intention to promote DRB in Australia, they told me I was dreaming. However it is the Commercial Radio Industry that is fast asleep, perhaps they will wake up now.”

ABC, SBS and Sport 927 will also supply programming for the trial.
