Radio National Wins Prestigious International Award

A Radio National production has received one of the two major awards in the 8th annual Prix Marulic International Festival of Radio Plays and Documentaries, held in Croatia.

The awards honour programs, which give new life to old texts through imaginative and original radio production, one for documentaries, the other for drama.

An international jury considered 33 radio dramas and 27 documentaries, submitted from 22 countries.

‘In Studio: Dreaming Transportation’ has won the 2004 Grand Prix Marulic Award for Radio Documentary. This musical documentary explores the experiences of the cast of the music- theatre work, ‘Dreaming Transportation’ by Sydney composer, Andrée Greenwell.

The program was produced by Jane Ulman and Russell Stapleton for RN’s Acoustic Art Unit, with music production by Cathy Peters. It was originally broadcast in ‘The Listening Room’ on ABC Classic FM in December.

To celebrate the win, ‘In Studio: Dreaming Transportation’ will be broadcast on ‘Sunday Night Radio National’ on Sunday 4 July at 7.25pm.

ABC Radio has won this prize two years in a row. Tony Barrell’s production for ‘The Listening Room’, ‘What Tokyo’, was co-winner of the Grand Prix Marulic last year.
