102.9 Triple M on top in Newcastle: GfK Survey 2, 2023

SCA’s 102.9 Triple M is well on top in Newcastle in GfK Survey 2 with breakfast duo Tanya Wilks and Steve G having a quarter of the breakfast audience to themselves.

For all audiences 10+ Triple M was steady (up 0.4 to 22.4), but the margin between first and second was nearly 10 points. SCA stablemate Hit 106.9 were second, down 1.9 to 13.9 and the Bill Caralis owned NEWFM third, up 1.1 to 10.0.

Survey 1, 2023 of Newcastle saw the Hit breakfast trio of Nick, Jess and Ducko up more than 5 points. This survey they were down 4.3 to 13.2, and still second. Tanya and Steve were up an incredible 3.5 to a 24.4 audience share. ABC Newcastle’s breakfast duo Jenny Marchant and Dan Cox moved into third, up 1.3 to 12.1 and the only other breakfast show above 10s.

Both the ABC and NEWFM will be pleased with this survey. NEWFM saw growth in every day part with Drive steady. The ABC appear to have picked up 2HD’s evening audience; 2HD down 7.8, the ABC up 5.9, NEWFM also up 2.7. With both Craig Hamilton and Kia Handley leaving ABC Newcastle this survey period, the next will be be interesting for their successors.

Cumulative audiences, both Triple M and NEWFM were up nearly 20,000 listeners.

Most of the other stations were steady but Hit was down more than 10,000 listeners, the ABC up 7000.
