2013 AFTRS students fire up Show Radio FM 107.9

“This year’s group shows strong potential,” Mark Collier

While many bemoan the fact that jobs in radio are hard to come by, AFTRS graduates generally have no trouble finding work in the industry – many before they even finish their course.

Show Radio – which broadcasts from Sydney’s Royal Easter Show – is also a first “show of talent” from the students of the Australian Film Television and Radio School studying for their year long Graduate Diploma of Radio.

AFTRS Director Radio, Mark Collier, says, “We have been enormously impressed by the quality of the students’ trial broadcasts in the run up to the Show … it’s been less than four weeks since the school year began due to the Show’s early start this year, but without exception, they have risen to the occasion and their strong potential is already shining through.”

In a tradition stretching back more than a decade, Show Radio 2013 broadcasts from 7am to 8pm daily through to the last day of the Easter Show, showcasing the capabilities and potential of all 18 of this year’s students.

Show Radio blends contemporary and classic country music with news, information and Show highlights for show goers and those just interested in what’s happening each hour of each day of the show.

The pop-up station broadcasts to Sydney on FM 107.9, streams through the Show Radio web site www.showradio.aftrs.edu.au and can be heard in and around the Show.

The Show Radio web site features links on the homepage for listening online and on smart phones, as well as access to program details, student profiles, podcasts, vodcasts, blogs and a picture gallery.

Show Radio provides listeners with entertainment and information, and the broadcast industry with its first taste of the talent emerging later this year from AFTRS.
