3MBS Radiothon a success

3MBS FM’s recent radiothon generated over 400 new subscribers on top of the station’s already healthy existing subscriber base.

Over $113,000 was pledged during the week-long subscriber and fundraising activity.

One of the innovative ideas during the radiothon was the sale of the honour of “number one subscriber.” In Melbourne, where “number one ticket-holder” is a high profile position for football clubs, the idea seems to have transferred well to the radio station. The successful bidder for the status of No 1 subscriber is a Dentist named Ian Hanson, who plays 3MBS in his dental surgery all day and felt he wanted to support the station.

Writing in the 3MBS magazine General Manager David Malzor said: “This great response means that the station is in a financially healthy position. It allows everyone who participates at 3MBS to plan confidently for the station’s future.”

The station has 200 volunteers, about half of which are on air. The other half work in off air roles around the station.
