With Victoria experiencing its worst drought in 20 years, 774 ABC Melbourne has made this Thursday (31 October), Fire Awareness Day.

A collaboration between 774 ABC Melbourne and the Country Fire Authority, Thursday will be an opportunity for listeners to find out what to do to help make Victorians fire-smart and their homes and workplaces fire-proof.

From 8am to 8:30pm, listeners can phone the Fire Awareness Hotline number 1800 240 667 and speak to trained CFA volunteers about how to plan for a fire safe Summer.

The hotline will give Victorians quick, free access to the most up-to-date information and advice available on such things as how to make your home or business fire safe, and how to protect yourself and your family in the case of a fire emergency.

Throughout the day, 774 ABC Melbourne programs will feature interviews with and stories about Australians who have lived through fire and who understand that knowledge and preparation is the best insurance policy against the devastation of fire.
