ABC Knit In!

The ABC’s Ultimo Centre foyer has taken on a multi-coloured hue, with dozens of beautiful hand crafted wraps, hundreds of knitted squares and a car full of wool being donated for 702 ABC Sydney breakfast host, Angela Catterns’ Knit In.

Listeners have responded with gusto to the call for donations. Half made scarves and jumpers have been unravelled, cupboards have been raided and squares have been knitted.

An estimated 800 people will attend the event. With storage space at a premium, the 1956 Morris Minor – once used in ‘Mother and Son’ – has been used to store the wool. Wraps adorn the walls of the Ultimo Atrium, as does a special exhibition, focused on the works of the non-profit organisation, Wrap With Love.

The biggest challenge of all will be coordinating the hundreds of volunteers, who plan to turn up to the ABC from 5.30am on Friday (30 July) for a very special breakfast broadcast with a difference.

Last year, more than 450 listeners filed into the ABC foyer to become part of this award winning event. In excess of 20 wraps were completed, with 248 squares being created and 10 huge bales filled with donations of wool and yarn. All the wraps, squares and balls of wool were then given to the Wrap With Love, which sent them on to needy communities around the world.
