ABC NewsRadio presents ‘JFK – 50 Years On’

On the 50th anniversary of the assassination of former American president JFK, ABC NewsRadio presents a compelling broadcast on the legacy of JFK’s Presidency. This 6 hour loop can be heard on the ABC’s pop up digital radio station ABC Extra from 6am AEST on November 22 2013.

The program will:

  • revisit the theories and get modern day assessments of who killed JFK from academics and authors in the US
  • provide special insight from Mel Cottone who worked for JFK and first met him during the 1960 Presidential Election
  • relive the day (November 22 1963) through tapes from Dallas Radio Station KLIF, starting with the morning arrival of JFK and the fateful motorcade trip to the venue for an address that he never made
  • speak to a Canadian band, Cowboy Junkies, who will be staging a rock opera in Toronto to mark the anniversary with a work called “the Kennedy Suite”

Curated and presented by ABC NewsRadio’s Steve Chase, the program will also look at how the ABC broadcast the news and consider the influence JFK had on Australian politics.

JFK – 50 Year On can be heard on ABC Extra on your digital radio, online or the ABC Radio mobile app from 6am Friday November 22. Listeners can tune into the loop broadcast for 24 hours.
