JOY presents World AIDS Day Worldwide

World AIDS Day Worldwide is a JOY 94.9 initiative that will be delivered as a 24 hour radio and web streaming extravaganza from 6am on Sunday December 1, connecting internationally renowned experts in HIV medicine and science with local and diverse community leaders globally.

Each year since 1988, December 1 is recognised globally as World AIDS Day. It provides an opportunity to draw attention to the HIV epidemic around the world. Organisations and community groups often hold special events on or around December 1st, to raise awareness of HIV, to remember loved ones who have died, to show solidarity with people living with HIV, to celebrate survival and health, and to raise money for HIV and related causes.

The Red Ribbon is recognised worldwide as the symbol for HIV and when worn, especially on World AIDS Day, it shows your support for those living with and affected by HIV.

In 2013, the global theme for World AIDS Day is Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections, Zero discrimination and Zero AIDS related deaths.

World AIDS Day also coincides with the birthday of JOY 94.9 Australia’s only LGBTI radio station. World AIDS Day in Australia is particularly significant this year as it launches the official countdown to the 20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014) being held in Melbourne in July 2014. With more than 14,000 delegates expected, AIDS 2014 will be the largest conference on health and development issues ever held in Australia.

Whilst receiving the most up-to-date research and information from influencers at the forefront of the HIV response, the worldwide listening and viewing audience can post questions to any of the guests in real-time on Twitter, @AIDS_conference or #AIDS2014.

JOY 94.9’s World AIDS Day Worldwide is delivered in partnership with the AIDS 2014 local secretariat and thanks to the support of Living Positive Victoria, Victorian AIDS Council, Positive Life NSW and Tomorrow’s Future Today.

World AIDS Day Worldwide, with thanks to support from our major presentation partner: AIDS 2014 – the 20th International AIDS Conference, July 20 to 25 in Melbourne, Australia.
