ABC’s Commonwealth Games Coverage

The 20th Commonwealth Games have begun and the ABC Grandstand team is primed to bring Australian audiences the trademark live and commercial free radio coverage of the Games on ABC Local Radio nationally, ABC Grandstand digital radio, ABC Grandstand online and on mobile

  • Games commentary, including live finals and highlights, daily from 3am AEST starting Friday 25 July


  • Patrick Johnson, former Commonwealth Games competitor and the only Australian to run 100 metres under ten seconds

  • Rob Woodhouse, former swimmer and veteran of three Commonwealth Games


  • Gerard Whateley (VIC) – Swimming

  • Debbie Spillane (NSW) – Hockey/Ceremonies

  • Quentin Hull (QLD) – Athletics/Ceremonies

  • Tim Gavel (ACT) – Hockey/Rugby Sevens

  • Peter Walsh (SA) – Netball/Ceremonies

  • Clint Wheeldon (WA) – Cycling

Throughout the eleven days of competition ABC Grandstand will be providing audiences with unique programs to support the Games commentary, including:

  • The Full Scottish Breakfast with Francis Leach and his team, on ABC Grandstand on digital radio, online and on mobile. The program will feature live events and recaps of daily sporting achievements and the odd Scottish tune from 7am AEST daily

  • Glasgow 2014 Daily Highlights Reel, a 55 minute reel which will broadcast throughout the day on ABC Grandstand on digital radio, online and the mobile app
