Are you playing Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ‘Em on your radio station?

I’m interested whether you had a listen to the two country music songs that Beyoncé announced the release of during the Superbowl? Is your station playing them?

Do you recall when Lil Nas X released ‘Old Town Road’ at the end of 2018 that the song did something most unusual by charting on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. However, after its debut at No. 19 on the country charts, Billboard quietly removed Old Town Road from them due to apparently not being country enough. To fix that Lil Nas X approached Billy Ray Cyrus, and the rest, as they say, is history.

There’s a story in the Tennessean that a fellow called Justin asked KYKC, a country music radio station based in Oklahoma, to play Beyoncé’s new music and the station emailed a reply saying they don’t play Beyoncé because they are a country music station.

Have Australian country stations added this very pop artist’s two new country songs into rotation because ‘it’s Beyonce’ or do you feel the same as KYKC?

And to the Hit Network, Nova, CADA, KIIS etc, are you playing it because ‘it’s Beyoncé’, or not, because it is very definitely country?

Hold ’em up, and let me know.
