Attard interviews Douglas Wood on ABC Radio

Douglas Wood has spoken to Monica Attard on ABC Local Radio’s Sunday Profile program, revealing more about his hostage ordeal.

In a wide-ranging interview Wood has talk openly about his recent ordeal and why he went to Baghdad. He also explained how he was lured into capture, who he suspects laid the trap and how he was made aware by his hostage takers of the government’s efforts to secure his release.

Wood also defended his deal with the Ten Network, where he was paid for an exclusive interview.

Wood has told Sunday Profile he had been contracting out construction work for military accommodation in Iraq, despite the disapproval of his wife.

He was chasing a lucrative oil export deal when he was kidnapped by a group he thinks were Sunni Baathists.

He has told Attard that, at one stage during his captivity, they brought in a man who asked him about his knowledge of nuclear plants, which he had previously constructed in Russia.
