Congratulations to NZME and News Australia who were recognised at the International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards in Berlin.
News Australia’s Let Them Be Kids editorial campaign has taken home two first-place awards, Best Public Relations or Community Service Campaign (National) and Best Use of Print (National).
The Saturday Courier-Mail and Sunday Mail Editor, Melanie Pilling, who led this campaign said as she accepted the award:
“Let Them Be Kids had one objective – to help make Australia’s kids safer online. Critical to the success of this campaign was the parents who trusted us to tell their stories. These parents had suffered unimaginable loss and our campaign gave them a voice. We achieved what we set out to do but, significantly, also started a global movement around online safety with dozens of countries looking to introduce similar laws.”

New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME), with the NZ Herald, won Best Innovation in Newsroom
Transformation for the comprehensive reinvention of its newsroom last year and second place in three additional categories.
The NZ Herald project saw its newsroom structure redesigned around two distinct functions: a live desk focused on breaking news and driving free content reach, and nine specialist desks dedicated to investigative and enterprise journalism to deepen subscriber engagement. NZME also launched Herald NOW, a weekday live streaming video news channel.
Murray Kirkness, NZME editor-in-chief, said:
“Winning this award on a global stage is a tribute to our teams across the country. We now have a completely different structure, with new roles, new ways of working, new tools and platforms, all focused on serving New Zealanders wherever they get their news.
Most importantly, we have done all of this while maintaining our commitment to the most important part of our roles – delivering trusted, quality, in-depth and timely journalism every day.”
The 2026 INMA Global Media Awards attracted a record 960 entries from 274 news media brands in 46 countries. The awards ceremony took place in Berlin in front of more than 400 guests.
