Brisbane gets the cheapest fuel for almost 15 years

This morning, Brisbane motorists were treated to the cheapest fuel price that has been widely available in Australia in about 15 years.

Thanks to 97.3FM Brisbane and Puma Energy Australia, customers lined up for up to 1 kilometre to take advantage of a gobsmacking low cost of 97.3 cents per litre for petrol at four different Puma locations covering Brisbane’s north, south, east and west.

In one massive hour-of-power between 7.30 – 8.30am, the savings to Brisbane drivers, covered by Puma Energy, was close to $14,000, with thousands of litres of fuel driving out the door of the four locations.

The activation was part of 97.3FM Brisbane Breakfast’s ‘Unofficial Mayor’ campaign that has seen host Bianca Dye come on board to lend Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk a hand while he’s busy running the city.

Bianca was down at Puma Archerfield this morning to assist with pumping petrol, washing windscreens, offering beverages and speaking to customers about what these savings meant to them.

One customer described the impact these savings would have on her being able to afford medication for her husband who sadly had a stroke last year.

Another emotional customer revealed she would use the savings to buy extra food for her children to have in the house, instead of scrimping and saving as they normally do.

And another filled up her car, but when she went to pay she realised she’d left her credit card at home and in a random act of kindness, a fellow customer paid for her petrol, refusing the offer to be paid back later.

97.3FM Content Director, Barry Drinkwater says, “While the Lord Mayor is doing an incredible job of managing the city, 97.3FM was keen to come on board to help ‘Give Back’ to the people of Brisbane. Judging by stories from customers taking advantage this morning, these acts of kindness really do make a positive impact in people’s lives. We look forward to continuing our Unofficial Mayor campaign throughout March, sharing more savings with our listeners and embracing the fun and enthusiasm that is Brisbane.”

Puma Energy Australia General Manager Retail, Alan Plews says, “Puma Energy Australia is excited to be part of Bianca’s campaign as the Unofficial Official Mayor of Brisbane. Her campaign has brought so much fun and energy to the Brisbane community, and we wanted to play our part in her campaign too…and we couldn’t pass up this opportunity to give back to Brisbane residents and loyal Puma customers.”
