Can the King of Cume keep his Share?

Peter Saxon asks Duncan Campbell…

No one had a better survey yesterday than Kyle Sandliands.

Six months ago he was absolutely livid that few in the media would acknowledge the fact that the Kyle and Jackie O Breakfast Show had more listeners than any other breakfast show in Australia including their Sydney rival Ben Fordham on 2GB. Yet it was Fordham who was perpetually promoted as first past the post based on share.

Kyle was so irate that he produced one of his signature on air rants against ARN management and his own colleagues at KIIS. He also rang the media reporters at The Daily Telegraph to complain bitterly about the treatment he was getting.

Then, in the very next Survey (7) of 2022, the survey gods granted Kyle and Jackie O a massive 2.1 share points while taking the same amount from Fordham’s share, catapulting the KIIS duo to number one overall, beating Fordham in both share and cume. Kyle and Jackie O were, for the first time the undisputed champions of Sydney Breakfast and able to claim the most listeners of any breakfast show in Australia.

But it didn’t last long. By the last survey of last year, the old order was restored.

This time around ARN Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell is confident that things will be different.
