Converse with the ACMA

The first of the ACMA’s public Citizen conversations for the Contemporary Community Safeguards inquiry begins today, 6 June at 9 am.

Over the next month, communications experts, commentators, journalists and academics, and interested public will explore the principles guiding the broadcasting codes of practice in a series of publlic forums to discuss key issues for new broadcasting codes of practice.

Join the ACMA either in person or via live webcast for the first conversation: Classification and the time shifting audience (morning) and then Decency (afternoon).

Speakers for the Classification and the time shifting audience conversation include Julie Flynn, CEO, Free TV Australia; Barbara Biggins, honorary CEO, Australian Council on Children and the Media; Professor Terry Flew, Professor of Media and Communications, QUT.

Speakers for the Decency session include broadcaster and journalist Gretel Killeen (speaker and facilitator); Chris Berg, Research Fellow, Institute of Public Affairs; Kirstin McLiesh; Head of Audience and Consumer Affairs, ABC; David Mason, Principal Advisor, Australian Human Rights Commission. ACMA Chairman Chris Chapman will introduce both sessions.

Classification: registration begins at 8:30 am, program from 9 am. Decency: registration at 12:30 pm and program from 1 pm.
