Last December I sat down for a chat with Despina Priala and George Caralis, two of the children of Bill and Pam Caralis, owners of the Super Radio Network, who passed away within days of each other in July 2024.
Despina and George made the decision to take over the network. Slowly, mindfully and steadily, from the appointment of Graham Miles as Group General Manager and Chris Smith succeeding John Laws on 2SM, and broadcasting around Australia, in the morning, they have acted on various decisions they’ve made to build on their parents’ legacy.
On Monday March 24 two more steps will be taken.
4AK and 4WK in Toowoomba Queensland will switch and Dave Sutherland will host breakfast on the newly named Cruze FM 93.5 from 6 am to 9am, broadcasting across the Hastings, Macleay and Nambucca Valleys of the NSW Mid North Coast. The station previously was known as Radio 531 or FM 93.5.
Dave has worked at 2GO Gosford and 2KO Newcastle as well as SRN stations Triple G in Gunnedah, 2HD in Newcastle, 2SM plus networked programs. He’s been with the network 15 years. John O’Callaghan continues between Midday and 3pm.
The network promised more live and local shows this year and that they have done. Mal Lees has joined their Tweed Heads station Radio 97 with George and Despina saying back in December that alongside Port Macquarie and the mid north coast, new local breakfast programs are still to come for Orange and Coffs Harbour.
