Dene Broadbelt’s mother talks briefly to Australian Radio Industry group

Australian Radio Industry facebook group moderator Bruce Goldberg got a message this morning from someone by the name of Mussillon asking to join the group.

He posted this to his members:

Ok everyone… here is something VERY interesting… I am getting a person from Batemans Bay/ Ulladulla with the surname of Mussillon (One of the names Dene Broadbelt uses) wanting to join this group. This is too much of a coincidence. Should I let her in and see what happens?

Later he updated:  Yes!!! she is related to him. she has pictures of him in her profile. It might be his mother.

Bruce allowed Dene’s mother’s account to join the group and she chatted briefly to group members through Bruce. There was little new information given in the very short chat.

She referred to the article in The Standard, saying it was the only article to have accurate information about Dene. She criticised Fairfax, Music Feeds, Nine Network and us here at radioinfo.

She said: “Look Bruce there’s only one person who has only lived the life of dene I wasn’t there, dene has had his say in an exclusive 1 hour interview on Thursday night with the standard which set the record straight again for more info contact Zach and leave me alone please from now on!”

A number of posters challenged Ms Mussillon about her son, some of them provided personally accounts of how they’d been “ripped off” by him. Still, she stood by her son saying, “he is not trying to rip other people off people are quick to judge his life from his past mistakes he has admitted he has done wrong the poor man is trying to move on from past mistakes, but people ain’t letting this happen how long does he have to pay for his mistakes his been given a life sentence by the look if it.”

This opened a lively discussion…

radioinfo’s Peter Saxon also posed jooned the discussion an posted the following question to Ms Mussillon but has received no response.

Sue, Peter Saxon here from radioinfo. Sorry to hear you’re on cancer meds. I hope you get better soon.

As you know, I received an email late last Tuesday night from a Jason Blackford who knew you and Dene. He said Dene had committed suicide. He included your phone number on the email. I probably should’ve rung you right away to confirm Blackford’s story. But I didn’t out of “respect” and because it was late at night. However I doubt it would’ve done me any good.

When I did ring you nine hours later, just after 8 am the very next morning to give you an opportunity to confirm or deny that Dene had, in fact, died, all I got from you was a tirade of expletives that would make Jack Tar the sailor blush. The only cogent statement I could glean from you was that I should go get my own story because you weren’t about to tell me ‘f***in’ nothin.’

You accuse the media of twisting and distorting the truth, yet you invite them to do exactly that through your own obfuscation and combative attitude. My question is, why didn’t you simply answer the question? Is he or isn’t he alive? Why not save Dene and yourself a lot of angst and a lot of bad press?
