From diagnosis to death – a remarkable, real life podcast

Diagnosed with incurable cancer and given just months to live, Rhonda Bjelan did something remarkable.

She agreed to do a podcast with her son, documenting each step in her journey from diagnosis to death.

Why? So, others going through something similar might be helped.

Rhonda’s son, Clayton Bjelan, works at 89.9 TheLight in Melbourne hosting a weekly interview show called In Conversation with Clayton.  Over the years, he’s interviewed hundreds of people on all kinds of topics, but nothing prepared him for this conversation with his own dying mother.

‘Incurable – the podcast’, is a deeply personal insight into the emotional rollercoaster that families experience when faced with the reality of losing their Mum.

“It came about when my Mum was given a diagnosis of incurable cancer and then passed away 3 months later,” Clayton explains.  “The remarkable thing is that she agreed to do a podcast with me about her thoughts, feelings, doubts, worries, regrets and hopes during that time.

“Best guess is somewhere between 300-400 hours have gone into producing the 12-part podcast – and really hoping that this deliberately recorded, mother & son conversation, helps people who may go through something similar.”

‘Incurable – the podcast launches May 1, just before Mothers’ Day.

It is free to download from the usual outlets but Clayton encourages people to give to the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
