Radio 2RPH today launches a new podcast – Disability Fail 101, hosted by disability advocate Mel Harrison, founder of Sitting Low Reaching High, proud wheelchair user and all-round barrier-breaker.
Disability Fail 101 dives head-first into disability, accessibility, and those awkward-but-well-meaning moments that somehow totally miss the mark.
Mel leads in-depth, candid conversations that prove there’s nothing funnier (nor more human) than tripping over your own good intentions.
Mel brings a passion for exploring all aspects of life, adaptive fitness, travel, work, recreation and everything in between to encourage disabled and non-disabled listeners alike to think bigger, do better, and laugh along the way.
“Disability conversations don’t have to be tense or tiptoe-y,” says Mel. “Sometimes the best way to learn is to laugh, reflect, and then try again – but with better intentions and better understanding.”
Episode one kicks off with fan-favourite Blind Mike, journalist and musician whose now-viral online Whinge about e-bikes has struck a nerve (and a funny bone) across the internet.
The first series also features guests including:
• Ronan Soussa, Love on the Spectrum star, autism advocate, Model Mates model and motorhead
• Harry Fortey, Disability Support Worker, personal trainer and surfer
• Yianni van Gelder, drummer and lawyer who is hard of hearing
The Disability Fail 101 podcast is proudly disability-led, with emerging audio producer Katie Brookes making her mark on the podcasting world and theme music by Sydney local legends The Oh Yeahs.
The podcast was produced with the assistance of the Community Broadcasting Foundation. Radio 2RPH also extends heartfelt thanks to ImpactInstitute and WorkIt Spaces for their support in providing accessible recording studio space.
