DMG still recruiting, Launch imminent

As the launch date for DMG’s new Sydney station gets very near, the final presenters are being locked in and a range of producers is also being recruited. Details of the new name, logo, line up and launch date for new station will be revealed on Wednesday (27 July).

Former ABC702 breakfast producer, Jenni Smith, has joined DMG and is on deck in the new station, while various other producers are also in discussions with the yet to be named broadcaster.

Insiders say the office floor where the new station is to be housed is still partly a construction zone, and other media people who regularly ride the lifts in the same building report increasingly excited mutterings and mentions of imminent launch dates from DMGers chatting on their way up to their makeshift offices.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, the only known local broadcaster for DMG’s new Melbourne station, a modest Francis Leach, has told the Glenn Mitchell’s Radioactive column:

“I am one of the best broadcasters in Australia. I listen to other broadcasters and I’m better than them… I have no compunction about saying I’m damn good at what I do… DMG and myself are the perfect fit.”

In an indication of what the format might be like, Leach says the new station will be a bit like “returning to what I did at Triple J.”

The new Melbourne station is expected to be on air by October. For news on the launch date for the Sydney station before Wednesday, ride the lifts in Pyrmont!
