Evanescence song most engaging this decade

In July, radioinfo reported on the first song to be named in the Dozen From The Decade list of the twelve songs that radio listeners have rated over the past 10 years as their most emotionally engaging tracks. The list counted up from number 12 to 1 each week, with the top song My Immortal by Evanescence now being revealed.

Strategic New Media has announced the Number 1 song after an analysis of more than 17,000 tracks across 10 years of internet based research.

Strategic New Media General Manager David Rogerson explains to radioinfo how the top song was determined:

“The emotional attachment to My Immortal by Evanescence was across each and every age group and sex meaning it just had to top the list, no questions about it.

“Our on line panellists commented on how they had used the song to commemorate a whole range of special events and memories from funerals to break ups and dedication services to our forces serving overseas.”

The sentiment that sums it up for all those who made My Immortal the Number 1 song from the Dozen From The Decade is provided by this male listener: An amazing song, very powerful …brings me to tears every time I hear it, and I’m a bloody tough dude!”

All of the written comments listeners made about each individual song Strategic New Media has been testing on line between the years 2000 until now were compiled. Using an emotion score from those written comments, and combining them with each listener’s enjoyment rating for the song, we arrived at the 12 Highest Emotionally Engaging Songs from 2000 to 2010.

Australia’s Music Pulse has been the base source of the song data analysis, combined with qualitative comments from Strategic New Media’s own music and audience trending research.  The final list featured three songs by Australian artists.
