Good news for 8CCC Alice Springs

The long running saga of 8CCC’s struggle to find new premises and stay on air after it was evicted from its premises at Charles Darwin Uni in 2005 (see our earlier story) now has a happy ending.

The Northern Territory Government will give the station $70,000 a year for the next three years to help it keep broadcasting.

Manager Robyn Toi says the community broadcaster is now attracting new members and sponsorship and has come through the worst of its troubles:

“In October we had 34 members and in December that had multiplied to 72, so it’s a fair indicator of people feeling a lot more supported and perhaps they’ve got a feeling that they are going to see their radio station continue on.”
