Hit 102.3 the winner in Esperance – Xtra Insights

The latest Xtra Insights survey of the Goldfields / Esperance region of WA, the first in three years, has Hit 102.3 still on top (31.9 up 3.9 for all audiences 10+), with SCA sister station 747 Triple M dropping back somewhat but still clearly second (23.7, down 0.3). Three-quarters of listeners aged 25-54 chose the two stations.

This survey doesn’t break down further age demographics but the 6.7 loss to triple j, now just a 4.8 market share, would suggest a younger audience have switched over to Hit.

On breakfast Hit WA‘s Alan Aldworth and Carly Portch, (main picture – Allan is currently on paternity leave, welcoming baby Violet to the family a fortnight ago) who have been together for more than two and a half years now, saw the gap widen at the top. They were up 4.1 to 32.6. Steve Ozanne (pictured above) down 2.5 to 20.4 for Triple M in second and Ivo da Silva on ABC Esperance and ABC Goldfields breakfast actually ahead of Ozanne if you add the two programs’ tally together. Paul Cook hosts ABC Great Southern WA breakfast with the coastal WA region having seven ABC stations to choose from, but no ARN.

SCA Head of Regional Content, Blair Woodcock, said:

“Congratulations to the entire SCA Esperance team today for their fantastic survey results, reaching #1 (HIT 102.3 Esperance) and #2 (Triple M Esperance 747) overall.

HIT 102.3 Esperance continues to deliver must-listen to content for Esperance locals, with Allan & Carly as the #1 Breakfast show, alongside Carrie & Tommy as the #1 Drive show.

In addition, the fiercely local approach with Oz for Breakfast on Triple M Esperance 747 continues to strike the right chord with the 40+ market.

Again, congratulations to the entire SCA team who work tirelessly in Esperance!”

Cumulative listening was generally positive or steady for most stations, particularly Hit. triple j listening on weekends in particular fell away.
