Hitz 939 find Bundaberg’s most popular primary school teacher

After 560,731 votes, Bryce and Trace from the Hitz 939 Breakfast Show surprised the Apple for the Teacher winner this morning.

Miss Peta Roche, the 4A Teacher from Bundaberg East State School, got a huge surprise when Bryce and Trace arrived at the school to announce her as the winner of Hitz 939’s Apple for the Teacher for 2016.

Miss Roche won with 40% of the votes and won an iPad Air 2, with the 25 students in her class all winning an iPod Shuffle each, thanks to Queensland Computers. Bundaberg East State School also won a $1,000 advertising campaign on Hitz 939 to go with the highly sought after title which has sent Bundaberg into a craze over the past few weeks.

The competition ran for six weeks, with residents around the region invited to nominate their favourite primary school teacher. The Top 10 then went to public vote. The Finalists were:

  • Mrs Tash Nastasi and Miss Peta Roche from East State School

  • Ms Carolyn Caldwell and Miss Shona Champion from Kalkie State School

  • Mr Mitchell Yarrow from Avoca State School

  • Miss Danni Bryson from St Mary’s Catholic School

  • Miss Emma Vicenzotti and Miss Emma Robinson from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

  • Mrs Marie Hillyard from Bundaberg Central State School

  • Mrs Di Philp from Bundaberg North State School

Hitz Breakfast Announcer and Promotions Manager, Tracey Sergiacomi, said the promotion had been a great success.  ‘An amazing 215 teachers were nominated from our region’ Tracey said. ‘The students really supported their teachers and they all wanted their teacher to be named Bundy’s most popular’. Bryce said ‘to get over half a million votes in the space of a few weeks was overwhelming. The school visit this morning proved how much interest the competition had as you can see in the video footage, it’s not every day you can get a whole school to put down their pens to get an iPod Shuffle’.
