While searching around for a story on the Melbourne Cup for today, radioinfo came across this little gem.
It is what is claimed to be the oldest recording from the ABC, when Eric Welch calls the 1932 Cup from Flemington.
Welch was on course, and was recorded in the Sydney studios of 2FC over 500 miles (800 Km) away via landline.
Yarramba and Peter Pan fought out the dying stages of one of the great finishes at Flemington.
The race was broadcast through 2FC, the forerunner to todays ABC RN.
Todays race will be covered extensively by radio networks around the country including:
3AW
RSN Racing & Sport
ABC Grandstand DAB+
Triple M
SEN
Sky Sports Radio
