“It’s a rare privilege for a leader to leave an organisation when it is excelling”: Sonshine CEO Bevan Jones steps down

Bevan Jones will step down as Sonshine 98.5 FM CEO after 13 years in the role, saying that it’s a “rare privilege for a leader to leave an organisation when it is excelling, knowing that I have done everything I can to achieve and knowing that it is time for a new leader to take it to the next level.”

Jones took the role at Perth’s Sonshine in 2011 taking a station that was struggling to its current position where it is financially stable, has strong staff and community connections and increased listenership.

“I feel proud and privileged as I finish soon after 13 years of learning and leadership at Sonshine Media. Proud that Sonshine Media came out of a challenging period both culturally and financially in 2011 to now be an integral part of the WA community, partnering with numerous organisations and individuals impacting thousands with hope and practical service. Privileged that I have met so many amazing people and organizations, many who are now friends,” said Jones.

“Listening numbers of FM and DAB+ and online engagement numbers are higher than ever, in fact 66,000 new regular weekly listeners in the last 18 months alone, reaching more people in our state and beyond with a positive message of hope.”

Highlights for Sonshine under Bevan’s leadership include:
– Our Heart for the Homeless month now partners with businesses, schools, Churches and Homelessness service providers to donate over 11,000 needed items every year.
– Watering Day – Through our partnership with Water for Africa this year, Sonshine listeners provided safe drinking water for life for more than 30,000 people in Tanzania.
– Take Away Hunger Day – Sonshine listeners provided a month of hot, nutritious food for 8,473 children living in poverty in Uganda through Feed the Hungry.
