KO FM retains #1 in Newcastle

Results for Newcastle Survey #3 have been released, with KO FM remaining top rating station and stablemate, NX FM, consolidating a strong second placing.

KO has moved up 0.3 points to 22%, while NX has fallen by the same small margin to 20.7%.

The Caralis Supernetwork’s 2HD has dropped 0.3 to a 17.6%, and sister station, NEW FM has improved again, up from 7.8% to 8.2%.

ABC 1233 is steady at 8.4% (down 0.1), while Triple J has jumped 0.5 to 7.2%(from 6.7%).

There has been little movement with the other ABC stations, with ABC FM coming in at 1.4% (from 1.7%), NewsRadio up 0.2 to 1.1% and Radio National increasing 0.3 to 1.3%.

A satisfied KO/NX General Manager Steve Smith has told radioinfo: “Radio Newcastle’s two radio brands continuously demonstrate their relentless dominance in the Hunter, and with an increasing amount of daylight between Radio Newcastle and other electronic media, it makes our brands an excellent marketing choice – we’re satisfied with the results, but won’t rest on our laurels. ”

NXFM dominated the 25-39 year old demographic with increases also for KOFM in that core demographic, giving Radio Newcastle 58.9% of the 25-39 year old demographics.

The results also show KOFM and NXFM own 42% of the 10+ All People demographic out of 9 reported radio stations in the market.

KOFM’s David and Tanya with More Fun at Breakfast are Newcastle’s favourite breakfast team, increasing their share another 2.3% to 23.6%. A trip to Singleton to re-set the sundial for Daylights Savings, testing people with “KOFM’s Phrase that Pays”, and searching for Heroes of the Hunter, were part of David and Tanya’s survey promotion activities.

NXFM’s Kyle & Jackie O consolidated their Number 1 Drive time entertainment show further with a 27.0% share. NXFM increased it’s Time Spent Listening by over an hour to 11.37 hours, whilst KOFM also increased it’s TSL to 13.08 hours.
