Kyle broke Lady Gaga? The facts say otherwise

This week Kyle Sandilands told the Courier Mail he was “the first [radio] person to hit play on a CD of a Lady Gaga song anywhere in the world. Her album was out for like six months… No one in America was playing it.”  Kyle, perhaps you better check the playlists of one of your rival stations to see if your statement is accurate. According to monitoring logs, Nova 96.9 was playing Lady Gaga’s first single Just Dance more than a month before it was aired on 2Day FM. Nova’s breakfast team enjoyed catching Kyle out on the exaggerated claims in a prank call this week.

Aircheck (a radioinfo advertiser) reports:

Nova 969
First play on station: 12/6/2008 at 10.37am
First play in Brekky: 20/6/2008 at 7.38am

2day FM
First play on station: 29/7/2008 at 7.52pm
First play in Brekky: 2/8/2008 at 8.14am

Nova had played Just Dance 37 times before 2DAY played it.

To highlight Kyle being caught out in telling a little porky, Nova’s Merrick, Dools & Ricki-Lee made a prank call to Lady Gaga’s people to try and get Kyle some money or royalties for being responsible for “breaking her.” Unfortunately they hadn’t heard of Kyle Sandilands.

A snipey comment from Dools suggested that Lady Gaga might even like to sign to King Kyle’s record label now that he doesn’t currently have any artists signed on his books.
