Laurel, Gary and Mark wrap up on 4BC

This is a lot going on in Brisbane today, with the Lions playing in tomorrow’s AFL grand final and Kevin Walters sacked as Broncos coach, which is why perhaps Laurel Edwards, Gary Clare and Mark Hine‘s final morning on air together, after a collective 77 years in the industry, passed with a quieter send off than many.

Laurel said that she was feeling okay until the morning team asked how she was, and she all of a sudden was hit with the reality of the situation.

The trio did what they have always done, shared laughs, chatted with listeners, replayed some highlights and played music, including a forgotten classic from Gary. Then, amidst some tears and the final words of ‘It has been an amazing ride, it really has’ they let Green Day‘s Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) take the show out.

You can listen to the whole last show below. Today was also news reader Steve Barker‘s final day. The 4BC imaging has already been updated to reflect Peter Fegan caretaking breakfast for the rest of 2024.
