Local NT Band to play at triple J’s one night stand concert

Joining the headliners on stage at triple j’s One Night Stand in Alice Springs will be Unearthed winners Tjupi Band.

Tjupi (Indigenous for Honey Ant) come from Papunya, 250kms North West of Alice Springs. Playing energetic and emotive songs they form part of the new wave of Indigenous Australian reggae. They sing in their native language Luritja, as well as in English.

Richard Kingsmill (Music Director) says: “Tjupi Band paint such a rich picture of how inland Australia sounds and we are proud to be able to share a stage with them.”

As well as the opportunity to open the One Night Stand concert, John Butler and Danielle Caruana (co-founders of The Seed) are offering a representative of Tjupi transport and accommodation to take part in their Seed Management Workshop in the Blue Mountains (NSW). The Seed aims to help Australian artists from any background, creating art and music, to establish themselves as self-sustained, professional artists. The workshop offers practical strategies for managing a band in the early stages of their career by bringing together a group of music industry professionals to offer strategic advice on ways to enhance performers’ opportunities.

triple j will broadcast the One Night Stand concert live on the radio along with online video, photos, music streams and artist blogs updated during the show, and later on triple j tv (ABC2).

triple j’s One Night Stand in Alice Springs is a free concert with 5 bands, on Saturday 27 March.
