Local radio steps up for drought stricken farmers

2TM and 92.9 FM have raised nearly $20,000 to help farmers suffering some of the worst drought conditions in years.

With no rain for months and none on the horizon, farmers are doing it extremely tough in many regions around Australia.

So Tamworth’s local radio stations rallied the community last week to give support to farmers in the New England region. The station asked listeners to give even just $1 to its Every Dollar Counts drought appeal.

Between collections from local businesses, direct donations to the appeal’s bank account and collections at a BBQ held out the front of the station studios, the appeal quickly raised the nearly $20,000 it can now pass on to farmers in need.
