Mike Byrne and Peter Schmidt join Super Radio Network

Since midway through 2025, when then joint Managing Directors of the Super Radio Network (SRN) George Caralis and Despina Priala decided to step back to non-executive director roles, the network has made a string of key appointments to enhance its leadership. Today, two more senior executives join the team; Mike Byrne has been appointed Network Content Director, and Peter Schmidt, Group Technology Manager.

Mike, the former WSFM Content Director, will be based in Newcastle, overseeing and enhancing the network’s local content offerings, while also contributing to broader group-wide content strategy. He commences early February.

CEO Rhys Holleran said:

“Mike is one of the most respected content leaders in the industry, particularly in Newcastle, where his reputation speaks for itself.

He brings a proven track record across Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle, and a deep understanding of how strong local content connects with audiences.

We’re thrilled to welcome Mike into this key leadership role as we continue to lift our content offering across the Network.”

Mike said:

“It’s great to be back in my hometown of Newcastle doing the job I love.

This network is on the move and an exciting place to be, and I’m looking forward to being part of the Super Radio Network team.”

Pete Schmidt returns to the industry after more than a decade working privately and for organisations in IT, management and promotional roles.

Rhys said:

“Peter brings a wealth of experience, including a strong background in commercial radio, and his appointment is an important step in strengthening our technology capability.

This role touches every part of the business, from what we deliver to listeners to how we operate day to day, and Peter will be a key part of our leadership structure as we continue to evolve and improve.”

Pete added:

“It’s great to be coming back to radio.

It’s a terrific business, and I’m looking forward to contributing to Super Radio Network’s continued success.”

Rhys Holleran was appointed to the CEO role in October 2025. Joan Warner joined as Board of Directors Chair in August that year and Graham Miles became Group General Manager in October 2024.
