MKR feud leads to content review at 7HO

In 2013 Tasmanian Father and Son team Mick and Matt Newell won over Australian audiences with their efforts on the Channel 7 competitive cooking program My Kitchen Rules.

To viewers, it was no secret that there was no love between Mick Newell and a fellow contestant, Sophia Pou, from Sydney.

Recently, Mick and Sophia were flagged as potential contestants on another Channel 7 program Dancing with the Stars, but when Mick secured a full time radio position at 7HO FM in Hobart, Sophia took the spot.

Contestants from reality shows usually do the radio rounds after they’ve been eliminated and since the beginning of this series of Dancing with the Stars, 7HO FM breakfast duo Mick and Jane has spoken to all eliminated contestants. That was until this morning when Sophia, who was eliminated last night, refused to be interviewed by Mick presumably because of the MKR feud.

7HO believe Mick has made it no secret the two don’t get on, but he was prepared to put personal issues aside to continue to cross promote the show, even if runs on the TV network in Tasmania that is owned by opposition media company Southern Cross Austereo (SCA).

Mick Newell said: “I’m not surprised she got eliminated or won’t talk to me. Her ego has always outweighed her talent, and I would love to take on in the kitchen, or the dance floor or even celebrity X factor if they think about doing that show in the future.”

Now, the 7HO FM content team said that this incidenct is leading to a review of whether or not the station should continue talking to eliminated Dancing with the Stars contestants.
