Multicultural AFL show reaches a milestone

The Multicultural AFL Football TV Panel Show celebrates its 50th episode this Thursday evening.

The TV program combines with radio podcast productions and distribution across TV, radio and digital platforms and has been on-air since 2018 with the assistance of Community Television (C31), the AFL and the Community Broadcasting Foundation.

NEMBC Media Producer and Director, Fiv Antoniou said: “The Multicultural AFL Footy Show went to air with a Multicultural cast completely new to TV. It was the love of Aussie Rules and their enthusiasm to highlight our national game to diverse cultures that drove our presenters and made the show popular, surpassing all expectations”.

Produced by the NEMBC, the program airs on prime-time television, C31 TV in Melbourne and Geelong on Thursdays at 6:30 pm, C44 in Adelaide on Friday evenings and Aurora-Foxtel TV midday on Saturdays.

The TV weekly shows are re-produced for radio and become part of a weekly package of AFL news podcasts in 8 languages that are broadcast on 25 community radio stations nationally and through the Community Radio Satellite service every week.

“This attracts a Multicultural audience of over 1 million listeners/viewers per week during the AFL footy season”, said Mr. Antoniou.

“Along the way to our 50th episode, the program achieved a number of Television and radio accolades, the highlight being, our presenter Harbir Singh Kang, winning the CALD personality of the Year Antenna Award in 2019 and the show winning the Best Online Production in the 2020 CBAA Awards.”
