New Community Licence for Gosford

The ABA has allocated a new community radio licence for Gosford on the NSW Central Coast.

The successful applicant, Gosford Christian Broadcasters Limited (GCB), is already up and running on 94.9 FM.

The ABA received two other applications from Radio Yesteryear Incorporated and Wyong Gosford Progressive Community Radio Incorporated (PCR).

GCB is targeting the Christian community in the Gosford area. PCR’s proposed service was aimed at minority groups, principally ethnic and youth, while Radio Yesteryear focused on people aged 40-70 and those who enjoy nostalgia music.

Acting ABA chief, Lyn Maddock says: “The ABA considered that the non-denominational Christian service proposed by Gosford Christian Broadcasters, targeting the general Christian community in Gosford, would meet the needs of the community in the Gosford licence area to a greater extent than the services proposed by the other two applicants.

“Currently, there is no full time Christian broadcasting service in the Gosford region. GCB demonstrated there is a need for such a local service.

“Furthermore, GCB demonstrated it had the capacity to provide its proposed service in the Gosford licence area.”

During the allocation process, the ABA consulted with the community and met each of the applicants.

The new licensee is John Marks, Interim General Manager, Gosford Christian Broadcasters Limited, (02) 4325 1000.
