New Home For 92.5 Gold FM and 90.9 Sea FM

It’s all happening on the Gold Coast this week. Radio people from all over Australia are in town for the conference and awards, and Austereo is moving house after more than 22 years. The offices of Southern Cross Austereo’s Gold Coast Media Centre today move from their old location in Southport to unveil new offices at Broadbeach’s Oracle complex. Staff and guests attended a launch function last night and heard from Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran, officially opened the new facility. All shifts on Gold and Sea FM will be broadcasting from the new studios from today.

Home to radio stations 92.5 Gold FM, 90.9 Sea FM and the Gold Coast television operations for Southern Cross Ten, Eleven and ONE, the new centre will include four radio studios, five production studios, three television editing suites and one television studio.

Rhys Holleran says the new facility signifies the next chapter in the company’s Gold Coast operations:

“The new Gold Coast Media Centre represents the start of a new chapter in the history of Sea FM, Gold FM, Southern Cross Ten, Eleven and ONE. With state-of-the-art studios and production facilities, we’re delighted to open the doors of our new facility, and look forward to delivering great entertainment across our radio, television and online assets.”

He told guests at the launch last night Austereo Southern Corss now employs one in three people in the industry. Reminiscing about the station he says launched the network, he remembered the original general manager Stan Willmott and paid tribute to the old building that was home to Gold and Sea FM for 22 years. The new studios cost about $4 million and took a year to build.

Gold Coast Media Centre General Manager Paul Bartlett says the move to Broadbeach will mean an even better product for listeners and clients. “This is a very exciting move for all of us at the Gold Coast Media Centre. After 22 years in Southport – where we produced excellent radio for local listeners – it’s fantastic to move to fresh new offices and studios. All the staff are revitalised by the move, which I‘m sure will mean an even better product for our listeners and clients.”

The radio studios use the NextGen playout system with an Axia desk, and there are a range of voice booths and production studios in the complex.
