But they find a shift for Ed Sheeran

It is an embarrassment of riches for smoothfm with a conga line of celebrity talent keen on doing their own networked air shift on the station.

Superstars such as  Lionel Richie, Seal, Barry Gibb and Michael Bublé have all played DJ on the station and currently Ronan Keating, Cameron Daddo, Richard Wilkins, David Campbell and Jason Donovan, all hold down a weekend shift.

But insiders say that a long list of A-List artists who have offered to do a shift, have had to miss out. Many see smoothfm as an ideal outlet for their brand of music and a platform to reach their core audience.

But that’s probably untrue of the station’s latest recruit, current international success, Ed Sheeran, who’s been doing the radio rounds to prove he is just as good a fit talking to Hamish and Andy on the Today Network as he is on Mix or triple j.

Starting this Saturday, Sheeran will be pulling his own one hour shift from 9 am on smoothfm.

The award winning UK singer, who is more than passable on air talent, is one of 2012’s biggest success stories. His debut album + has gone platinum twice and reached number one on the Aria Album chart. His current single ‘Give Me Love’ follows a collection of number one and multi-platinum hits including ‘Drunk’, ‘Lego House’ and ‘The A Team’. Ed is currently on his second Australian tour.
