Nova’s Postcode Payday competition breach

Fitzy & Wippa announced this morning that they would be donating $50,000 to local charities due to a contestant breaching Nova 969’s strict terms and conditions.

After discovering that the winning caller in Nova Sydney’s Postcode Payday competition was not who they said they were, Nova’s legal counsel confirmed that the $50,000 prize money would not be awarded.

In an official statement this morning, Fitzy explained: “At Nova, being fair to our listeners is in our DNA. All of our competitions are governed by a set of terms and conditions that stipulate many things, including how we conduct each competition, who may enter and how Nova 969 selects or determines our contestants and winners.

This means is we now have $50 000 to redirect, and in the spirit of fairness and doing the right thing Nova 969 will donate to 5 charities that are very close to our hearts.”

The following charities will each receive $10,000 from Nova 969

  • The Children’s Hospital at Westmead
  • Camp Quality
  • My Room
  • McGrath Foundation
  • beyondblue

When the news was announced to the various charities, there was immediate warm appreciation fot the gesture. It’s not very often you get to make a phone call offering an out of the blue $10,000 donation.

Nova spoke to a few of the representatives from our selected charities today who were all overwhelmed with the generosity and wanted to pass on their thanks:

From The McGrath Foundation..

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for getting in touch with the news that Nova will be making a very generous donation of $10,000 to the McGrath Foundation.  We’re immensely grateful for your support, this will certainly go a long way in helping us fund specialist breast care nurses to support Australian families experiencing breast cancer.

Again, a huge thank you from all us here at the McGrath Foundation.

Best,
Angela

From Beyond Blue…

Dear Rachel

You sure do know how to make a fundraiser happy!  Such wonderful news and we’re absolutely thrilled that beyondblue was chosen.

This donation will assist beyondblue to continue working towards achieving its goals: to increase community awareness about depression and anxiety and reduce the stigma associated with this condition through public education.  We also strive to increase help seeking and reduce harm associated with these illnesses.
Our ongoing commitment is to make the facts about depression and anxiety and its effective treatments more widely available across Australia.

With best wishes
Bronwyn

From The Children’s Hospital at Westmead…

Hi Rachael

Could you please pass on again our thanks.  What a wonderful way to solve what was a messy situation. I am sure that the other charities are just as grateful as we are. This donation has come at a critical time for us.  Christmas there are so many demands on the hospital resources and staff so this will go a long way in helping sick kids.
