Two of the long standing team with ABC Radio Canberra are leaving after collectively giving more than four decades service to the broadcaster.
Today, Thursday September 19, is Julian Abbott’s final day. He announced his retirement in March, took some leave, but as has been the nature of his career, has popped back in to lend a hand.

“I’ve just turned 60 and I’m ready for the next chapter which is retirement. I finish 38 days short of 33 years at the ABC. To everyone along the way in my 42 years in radio, thanks.”
Patrick Sproule (main picture), ABC’s Head of Content Technology Solutions, is also taking ‘a brief intermission’ after nearly 11 years with the broadcaster. He led the team that researched, designed, and deliver the ABC’s core content production technologies.
Sproule said on LinkedIn:
“The timing is right for a cheeky little break before heading on to new challenges. Thanks to all those who have reached out in recent weeks and thanks also to all in the media industry that I have worked or collaborated with. It’s been a blast!”
