Next weekend Radio National will broadcast from two of the most popular music festivals in Australia, WOMADelaide and the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
As well as the network’s regular music programs, on Saturday night 6 March Radio National will throw out its usual schedule for a six-hour music extravaganza. From 6pm there will be live crosses to both festivals with performances and interviews continuing until midnight.
In 2004 WOMADelaide features a stellar line-up including Youssou N’Dour,
Abdullah Ibrahim, The Cat Empire, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan, Savina
Yannatou, Gilberto Gil, Monsieur Camembert, Inti Illimani, Kila, Mary
Coughlan, Mark Atkins, and R Carlos Nakai.
Radio National presenters
Lucky Oceans and Doug Spencer (The Planet), Rhoda Roberts (AWAYE!),
and Andrew Ford (The Music Show) will all be there, broadcasting a
combination of live and recorded music from the main stages of the
festival as well as roving backstage to interview key performers.
Paul Petran (Music Deli and Live on Stage) will be at Port Fairy to
broadcast live on Saturday night as well as recording the best of the
festival for weeks to come on his Music Deli and Live on Stage programs.
This year Port Fairy artists includes Steeleye Span, Ralph McTell,
Kavisha Mazzella, Bruce Cockburn, Andy White, and Deborah Conway.

Live on Stage – Les Hurlements d’Léo
To warm up the weekend, hear a recording of last year’s gig by the “gypsy
punksters” Les Hurlements d’Léo. Hailing from Bordeaux, Léo are featured
at this year’s WOMADelaide.
