Radio Reporter Pleads Innocent to Poisoning Wife

Talk radio KLIK-Jefferson City reporter James Keown has pleaded innocent to poisoning his wife by spiking her Gatorade with antifreeze and was ordered held without bail.

He was arrested earlier last week during a commercial break at the Missouri radio station where he works.

Prosecutors have said the couple was struggling financially after moving to the Boston area in early 2004 after Keown convinced her he’d been accepted to Harvard Business School which, prosecutors say, was a lie. They indicate he may have killed his wife for her $250,000 life insurance policy.

Julie Keown died last September, and an autopsy found she’d been poisoned with ethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze.
