Revenue down but profit up for Macquarie Radio Network

Macquarie Radio Network’s reported revenue from ordinary activities was down 10% on last year, to $29.7 million, but profit was up 100% to $4.5 million. The good profit number is a result of the company’s business getting back on track after the unprofitable 3MTR venture last year.

The company paid a 5 cent per share interim dividend on the results, to December 31 2012.

The stock exchange has statutory reporting requirements so that details are comparable across all companies. MRN’s reported EBITDA increased by 50% to $7.4 million, but the underlying EBITDA decreased 38% to $5.8 million.

MRN’s share of the Sydney ad market fell from 25% to 23.5%, indicating an effect from the Alan Jones boycott during October last year. Executive Chairman Russell Tate told investors last year that the Jones boycott cost the business around $1.5 million.

A one off factor in the accounts this year was revenue of $1.7 million from the London Olympics coverage.
