Richie won’t take no for an answer on Radio gig

When you’re trying to break in to Radio, getting a PD’s attention can be harder than trying to flag down the Indian-Pacific with a candle. But Riche Wright wasn’t about to let Ross Turner ignore him without making his presence known – if you know what we mean.

Determined to get a fair hearing with Turner, PD of the Sea/Mix combo on the Sunshine Coast, 22 year old Wright set up camp outside the studio vowing not to leave until his demand was met.

After a hot day and a cold night, persistence finally paid off with Turner inviting him upstairs for a chat telling him, “If you’re trying to impress me, you have.”

Wright, who drove all the way from Perth for the opportunity was rewarded with some work experience starting immediately. After that, who knows?

To land a coveted job in Radio, Wright says you have to think outside the square. “I’ve sent him my resume and stuff, but I’ve sent him a YouTube video of me conquering my fear of snakes. I think it’s a different way to go about it.

Radio is all about creativity. It’s so competitive so you’ve got to hit them head on otherwise I won’t get anything,”, says Wright.
