Just a couple of weeks after long-time co-host Todd “Toddy” Widdicombe announced his departure from 92.7 MIX FM Drive on the Queensland Sunshine Coast for profound personal reasons, his on air colleague and close friend Sami Muirhead has shared that she will do the same from their weekday 3pm – 6pm show.
The announcement will end a golden era of Sunshine Coast radio. Todd and Sami first teamed up on 91.1 Hot FM nearly two decades ago before joining forces at MIXFM in 2014. Their final show will be on Friday August 22, 2025.
Reflecting on her decision, Sami said:
“I must be bonkers because I am stepping back from my dream job here at MIX FM. This has been my fun space, my safe space and my space of fulfilment to interact with so many locals and hopefully spread some happiness. I love my work family and I love our listeners. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to share their stories and to have so many laughs along the way.
Todd, your leaving forced me to dare to imagine there may be more to life than always running so fast to keep up the juggle of work and life. I want to try being a Mum Taxi for a while, to create a safe and happy home for my autistic son, to be there for my other son’s health and devour every minute of my daughter who swears she’s leaving home in just 3 short years.
So begins a new era of calm and slower days on the horizon. And who knows what the future holds for Todd & Sami. I am waiting to do that podcast together on book reviews and talking about our feelings.”
Sami will remain a valued part of the GSL Media family, and with opportunities in podcasting, guest appearances, and future on-air projects. And there’s every chance Todd might pop up alongside her.
Todd said:
“It’s been a mammoth decision for my mate to stay or go, but riding off into the radio sunset together feels right after all these years, and just like the movies Young Guns and Young Guns 2, we’ve had an origin story and a sequel…but did I mention they are working on Young Guns 3?! Yep, stand by for the 3rd instalment of Todd and Sami…it’s a podcast called “Things you can say in Church, and in the Bedroom!”, pending approval from GSL Media!
Sami, congrats, you are a truly wonderful bird and always remember if it weren’t for me you would have been so much more successful.”

Todd & Sami’s final Drive Show on Friday 22 August will be a special farewell broadcast that promises memories, laughter and tears.
