7HO top, big gains for Triple M and Hit – Xtra Insights Hobart

7HO is the most listened to station in Hobart in the latest Xtra Insights survey of the region, as they have been for the last three years, but SCA‘s Hit100.9 and Triple M have made considerable inroads, so much so that Hit has the most unique listeners now in breakfast, afternoons and drive. This survey also features digital radio listening in the region.

7HO Content Director Allan Cameron said:

‘I am incredibly proud of today’s results and the entire 7HOFM Team. We pride ourselves on being the leaders in local and thank our listeners for listening and being part of the 7HOFM community.’

Dan and Christie on Hit100.9 breakfast grew their audience by 2.7% to 21.2 overtaking 7HO’s Sarah, Mick and Johnno whose audience dropped to 19.9. Triple M was the biggest improver, increasing its audience by around 4% in all day parts. Dave Gleeson on Triple M evenings, networked across Australia, was up 14% to lead with a 22.4% audience.

SCA Head of Regional Content, Blair Woodcock, said:

“We are stoked to be celebrating outstanding results on the Apple Isle today. SCA has achieved the #1 and #2 stations in the Audience That Matters – the 25–54 demo – with Hit100.9 and Triple M Hobart reigning supreme and taking out the top spots, respectively. It’s a stunning result that highlights the strength of our duopoly.

This is also Triple M Hobart’s largest-ever audience. Kaz & Tubes continue to win over locals with a Breakfast show that is proudly Hobart through and through – from renaming national parks to flying David Walliams around Tasmania – their hard work has resulted in audience growth and a huge jump in share (from 11.2% to 14.4%).

We are so proud of our team in Hobart. These results are a credit to the passion, consistency, and energy poured every day into our stations. Congratulations to all involved – this is what local radio at its best looks like.”

Triple j struggled with losses particularly to their 25-39 audience. ABC Hobart too, except in breakfast. Ryk Goddard 16.6% audience saw him comfortably third behind Sarah, Mick and Johnno and Dan and Christie.

Cumulative listening to the top three stations was almost the same overall but reflective of losses to 7HO and big gains for Triple M in particular. Across the board and including digital stations Triple M was the only station to see growth in audience checking out the station.
