Around the grounds ahead of GfK Radio 360 Survey 3

GfK Radio 360 Survey 3 of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth is out tomorrow morning June 17, at 9:30am. It was measured from Sunday March 9 – Saturday April 12 and Sunday April 27 – Saturday May 31. Although it already feels a long time ago, this incorporates three of the five week federal election campaign and both NRL and AFL seasons in full flight.

Survey 2 was fascinating in that Nine talk stations 3AW in Melbourne dropped as much as 2GB in Sydney and 4BC in Brisbane went up with a particularly pleasing result for Ray Hadley‘s replacement Mark Levy (pictured). In a period where people were more likely to be tuning into talk, you would imagine that the commercial stations and ABC should see some uptick tomorrow, particularly in Melbourne.

Will Christian O’Connell still rule FM breakfast in Melbourne? I think yes, especially given the departure of Jack Post who has been with the Gold 104.3 show since its inception, during the survey period. Christian has turned finding Jack’s replacement into content, how that pans out will be more evident survey 4, but his leaving is significant and will be felt this survey.

Now that Triple M across the board has leant back into sport-centric and largely local drive shows, their breakfast programs should benefit too. In Adelaide, the 5MMM‘s breakfast team of Roo, Ditts and Loz were very nearly pipped by Nova 919‘s Jodie and Hayesy. Adelaide breakfast is very competitive but I would imagine that the Ms should see increases across the metros with the show offerings now settled.

That brings me to Kyle and Jackie O at KIIS 1065 Sydney and KIIS 101.1 Melbourne respectively. This survey period another 70 jobs have gone from ARN, including night program Zach and Dom and KIIS 1065 Content Director Tony Aldridge. KIIS slipped to a 9.5% audience share in Sydney with significant losses in the 18-24 demographic.

It has been a long time since K&J were not the top breakfast show in Sydney in terms of cumulative audiences. Survey 2 had Fitzy and Wippa (Kate Ritchie has been on leave since the start of February) at Nova 969 nipping at their heels. It was be quite a coup if Melbourne’s Nova 100‘s Jase and Lauren and Fitzy and Wippa had higher cumes in Survey 3. But, it is a very real possibility.

Finally the Nova Network, the big achievers over the last 12 months. Nova can say that they have a show that is either No 1 or 2 in every metro market. Strictly speaking Jase and Lauren are 3rd in Melbourne but they do have the highest breakfast cume overall.

In Perth Nova 93.7’s Nath, Nat and Shaun even further extended their lead to a 21.7% audience share. Their cumes exceeded Jonesy and Amanda’s on Gold 101.7. I don’t expect any change to No 1 in that market.

But surveys always come with a surprise. You will be able to find all the results here tomorrow morning at 9:30am.
