The growth in the listeners testing out the new breakfast shows for Triple M 104.9 in Sydney and Nova 106.9 in Brisbane should be pleasing to SCA and the NOVA Entertainment respectively but the biggest winners in cumulative audiences in GfK Radio 360 Survey 2 were well established shows like Bogart Torelli on smooth 95.3 and Marto, Margaux and Dan at 104.5 Triple M Brisbane.
In Perth Clairsy and Lisa on ARN’s 96FM had the largest cumulative growth in the city but there is no catching Nathan, Nat and Shaun (main picture) on Nova 93.7. Not only did they have an astonishing 21.7% share of breakfast audience, but their cumulative one (433,000) means that they are the 11th most listened to show in the country with more tuning in than to Jonesy and Amanda on Sydney’s Gold 101.7.
The most listened to breakfast show in the country was Melbourne’s Jase and Lauren at Nova 100, overtaking KIIS 106.5‘s Kyle and Jackie O in Sydney in the process. While ARN will be pleased with K&J’s rating lift in Melbourne off the back of active promotional activity in the city, it has come at the greater expense of their Sydney audience, something Kyle perhaps had some foresight into when he said on the show yesterday morning:
“I’ve told our management this, we’re not going to super serve Melbourne and ignore our Sydney audience. Here’s something I haven’t even discussed with Jackie, if we don’t rate better by the end of this year, I’m pulling the carpet out. I’ll just take the show off Melbourne.”
smooth 95.3 had the largest national listening audience providing musical relief to election conversation and sporting seasons. ARN’s Gold 104.3 moved to the top in Melbourne overtaking Nova 100 and SCA’s The Fox FM along the way. Many stations saw steep declines in listeners checking out the station, The Fox and 3AW in Melbourne and Sydney’s Nova 96.9, 2Day FM, the ABC, WSFM and particularly KIIS 1065 down near 100,000. ABC News Radio had significant audience growth in Sydney and Melbourne but the quiet achiever in the latter was 3MP 1377 who alongside Gold and smooth are providing respite from sports and talk.
