Sydney community stations seeking Broadcast Technician

Those in radio will know the value of skilled and reliable Broadcast Technicians because station equipment failure and natural disasters don’t come with a calendar schedule.

For community radio the capacity to find and fund technicians have led to talks at the recent CBAA conference on grant writing tips and a successful pilot program headed up by Ben Menaglio in Western Australia where stations are working together to contract technicians to look after a group of them, rather than just one.

The issue isn’t confined to regional Australia however with the CBAA creating an opportunity for an experienced Broadcast Technologist to provide comprehensive technical support services across multiple Sydney station sites.

CBAA DAB+ Service Development Manager Jeremy Graham said:

“This collaborative project between four stations, modelled on the successful WA Tech Hub, will help us build resilience, improve efficiencies, and upskill our teams where it matters most. It’s a practical example of Roadmap 2033 in action, showing how working together can strengthen community radio for the future.”
The tender will initially be for a period of 12 months, commencing March 2026, with the option to renew for a further two years.

Expressions of Interest close on January 23 2026.
